You Dirty Blue tease new EP ‘Make Way For The Montage’

Tamworth alt-rock duo You Dirty Blue are kicking off 2019 with a brand new EP, Make Way For The Montage, coming out on March 1st.

It’s been a busy few years for the pair since they formed in 2016. They’ve supported Wolf Alice and Starcrawler, not to mention being handpicked by Michael Eavis himself to play Glastonbury Festival. Previous releases Pictures from Pages and Tough Crowd have given listeners a taste of their live sound, but Make Way For The Montage has its sights set on stranger territory.

Last week, Leon James and Martin Reynolds dropped the video for the EP’s opening track, ‘Loose Hips’. The pair have got their hands on an analog video synth thanks to the team at BWTV, and it sets the tone for the new release perfectly.

Make Way For The Montage still has You Dirty Blue’s trademark grungy rattle and James’ sailor-in-a-storm vocal delivery. This time, though, it’s offset with jazzy time signatures and gated drum loops. Reynolds offers up some rare lead vocals for ‘Jumped the Gun’, sounding refreshingly easy over James’ cocksure riffs. The drums have all the John Bonham-bombast audiences have come to expect from Reynolds, so it’ll be interesting to hear him pull this off live.

As a whole, Make Way For The Montage is You Dirty Blue’s most ambitious release yet, and all the better for it. They’re delivering the six tracks into the world at a gig at the Sunflower Lounge on March 1st, with support from fellow Tammies, Stuka.
