Life-size Noddy Holder lego statue pops up at New Street Station
If there’s one thing that indicates Christmas is just around the corner, it’s Noddy Holder screaming ‘IT’S CHRISTMAS!’ on Slade’s ’73 festive hit, ‘Merry Xmas Everybody.’ Even though it might only be November, that hasn’t stopped a life-size Lego statue of the local legend popping up in the middle of New Street station.
The sculpture took over 260 hours and 43,000 Lego bricks to build, showcasing the Lego Noddy is his famous yellow and red suit with guitar in hand. Commissioned by Retail BID Birmingham, the statue has been created to help raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity’s Moments of Magic Christmas campaign.
Noddy Holder said: “I’m really chuffed! It’s a great honour to have the statue made and I know a lot of hours have gone into it. The fact that it is helping to raise funds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity at Christmas time makes it feel extra special.”
Whether you want to go along and ogle at the creation to see if they’ve nailed his sideburns or take a quick selfie, drop a pound or two in the collection box or use the contactless device to tap and donate a few quid to the children spending their Christmas in hospital – it is the season of giving, after all.
Noddy’s appearance signals the beginning of the festive period in the city, with the annual Frankfurt Christmas Market opening this Thursday, too.
