New Digbeth venue The Mill just opened – and its rooftop terrace is stunning

Digbeth has just launched a brand new bar and live music venue next to the Victorian railway arches, and it’s safe to say Birmingham is well and truly on the up.

Enter the warehouse and head upstairs past exposed brick walls and beams to the first live music space equipped with a wide and impressively stocked bar.

Move deeper into The Mill and turn the corner to find its second gig area with a stage and two bars for the inevitable crowds to come. It’s hard not to imagine the musical chaos that will descend on the venue when it gets going.

Now for the mezzanine level with yet another two bars and a balcony for an impeccable view of the stage. Your next move will take you up and out; prepare yourself for even more open space, a literal breath of fresh air and a sight to really make the night.

Its open-top rooftop terrace puts it on the map; standing here grants you a view of the iconic Brum skyline and there seems to be a bar wherever you move around the warehouse. Take your pick from two more drinks stations before you soak up the buzz.

The Mill’s location in the creative hub of the second city has made it an idyllic beginning to a night where locals can either move next door to Northern Soul bar, The Night Owl; street food event, Digbeth Dining Club, held at trendy club Spotlight; the city’s eccentric mini-golf, Ghetto Golf, and beyond.

This bustling gem will host its public launch with a performance from Sham 69, English punk rock band on Friday night (September 28). Sham 69 will be performing as their original 1977 lineup, with a Propaganda launch party and Scouting For Girls DJ set to follow.

The events list is quickly building up with a selection of live music to choose from already including Mogwai, Dashboard Confessional, Napalm Death, Fun Lovin’ Criminals and an ABBA tribute club night. Saturday’s daytime launch showcase sold out in advance.

The Mill needs to be top of your to-do list; get it in your diary or arrive on a whim and see where your night takes you (just make sure it starts with a snap of the city’s skyline).
