Wooden Shjips to play Birmingham on UK tour
Prior to the release of their fifth studio album, V, due to hit the shelves on May 25th, long-time leaders of contemporary psychedelia, Wooden Shjips, have announced UK tour dates including a date at Birmingham’s O2 Institute, courtesy of local promoters This Is Tmrw.
Currently signed to Thrill Jockey records, the San Francisco four piece led by bandleader and Moon Duo co-founder, Ripley Johnson, have recently released their first single from the album and their first tease of new material since Back to Land in 2013. Clocking in near 8 minutes, ‘Staring at the Sun’, is a heady and hypnotic groove inspired by the tumult of the modern world, and the desire to offer a contrasting vision of peace.
With the band describing their style as ”vocals that slip beneath the waves of throbbing minimal rhythms while fuzz tone guitar and shrieking organ freak-outs jump to the foreground and draw you into a primal vortex”, any psychedelia fans should be there when the Shjip docks in Birmingham on September 16th.
