Birmingham’s very own slaughterhouse blues protagonists, The Hungry Ghosts, are due to release their new single, the double A sided ‘Lazaro/Amerika’, via SETTING SON RECORDS on August 4th. The single is their latest release since their Blood Red Songs EP was cast from the other side of the fence into the public’s grip back in 2016.
With themes of Americana, gunslinger outlaw antics and wild west resurrection at its core, ‘Lazaro’ sets the scene in motion with its rock’n’roll rhythm, distorted guitars and grimy vocals etched with the grit of high noon desert sands. The sin and salvation continues with ‘Amerika’; a slower paced offering but no less bluesy, dark and raw than its A side sibling. The whispering back up vocals from Emily Doyle entwine like the breeze between Joe Joseph’s unhallowed vocal exasperation, whilst the guitar tones bend and twist around the rising drum beat to unravel the tortured tale of a soul lost amidst the vast American wilderness.
The band will be celebrating the release of ‘Lazaro/Amerika’ with their single launch party to be held at Centrala, Digbeth on July 22nd. With support on the night coming from Average Sex, You Dirty Blue, Charlie Boyer of The Voyeurs and The Lizards, it will be an event not to be missed.
Tickets are priced at £6.50 + booking fee and are available via Skiddle.
