Review: Silversun Pickups return to Birmingham after six years

  • Silversun Pickups returned to the UK after a six year absence, with a show at Birmingham’s O2 Institute on Monday November 7th 2016

To kick the night off four-piece Parisian rock band Paerish took to the stage, performing their pleasantly unique sound. With somewhat peaceful voices, teamed with sharp riffs and some immense guitar work, Paerish created an electric vibe throughout Birmingham’s intimate O2 Institute, from start to finish. Performing a range of tracks including ‘Party’s Over’, ‘Biff’, ‘Then People Forget’ and their brand new single ‘Undone’, all of which exceptional.

Then came the band we’d all been waiting for. Waiting six whole years for their return to the UK, in fact. LA-born Silversun Pickups only had to step one foot onstage before the audience roared with pure gratitude for their return. Performing the first track ‘Cradle (Better Nature)’ from their 2015 long anticipated album Better Nature, Silversun Pickups had the audience wrapped around Brian Auberts little finger. Silversun Pickups are so clearly respected and admired by their fans; there was instant and nevertheless consistent chemistry throughout the entire night and they knew exactly how to interact with the crowd at a perfected level.

Proceeding to play multiple tracks from their 2012 album Neck of the Woods, Silversun Pickups additionally treated us to their wonderfully infamous tracks ‘Nightlight’, ‘Lazy Eye’ and ‘Panic Switch’, all of which the audience lapped up every single second of. Concluding with their 2014 single ‘Cannibal’, they proceeded to encore with the mesmerising ‘Kissing Families’, the first track from their 2005 album Pikul.

Overall, Silversun Pickups were a wonderful delight to see; the chemistry created was truly amazing and I cannot wait for their next return to the UK.
