Leading music college BIMM to open in Birmingham
The award-winning British and Irish Modern Music Institute are set to open a cutting-edge music college in Birmingham next year.
BIMM, the largest music education specialist in Europe, currently have colleges in locations such as London, Brighton and Manchester, with their alumni including established musicians James Bay, Tom Odell and George Ezra. The £4 million building will open in October 2017, employing over 50 local musicians and offering a range of degree-level courses.
“It made total sense for BIMM to open a music college in this vibrant city,” said the college’s new Executive Principal, Dara Kilkenny. “It has a diverse history of musicians, from Duran Duran, Black Sabbath to The Streets and Laura Mvula. It has been my privilege to have helped many creative individuals embark on their careers at BIMM Manchester and BIMM Dublin, so I’m looking forward to doing the same in Birmingham!”
In the past, BIMM students have enjoyed access to masterclasses from a range of musicians, including members of leading bands such as Radiohead, Elbow, U2 and Sonic Youth.
BIMM Birmingham will host the following courses: BA (Hons) Professional Musicianship (drums, bass, guitar, vocals and songwriting), BA (Hons) Music Production and BA (Hons) Music Business. Applications will be available through UCAS, and you can find out more information at the BIMM Open Day, scheduled to take place on Saturday 21 January.
