Retro 1980s arcade gaming bar Kongs to open in Birmingham

Situated on the site of former nightclub Chameleon, Kongs will bring 80s & 90s retro arcade games, craft beer, food and late night DJs to Birmingham later this year.

Brummie revellers will be able to release their inner nerd by enjoying their favourite arcade games of yesteryear in a brand new bar opening in the city centre.

Taking over the former Chameleon restaurant and bar, Kongs will offer a mix of arcade machines with classics Donkey Kong, Pac-Man and Mortal Kombat in their ranks, as well as ping pong and foosball tables.

Alongside all of this, Kongs, with existing branches in Bristol and Cardiff, will also welcome regular DJs to their venue which boasts a tasty food menu and a fully stocked bar of craft beers, cocktails and wines.

Kongs at 1 Victoria Square will be the latest in a trend of game bars and nightclubs to pop up in the city, following the recent arrivals of Serve and Lane7, late night ping pong and bowling bars respectively.

The Chameleon, a popular cocktail bar, eatery and nightclub with over 30s, closed down suddenly in February of this year after its operating company went into liquidation. The Chameleon had been open since 2010.

Kongs, a completely different entity altogether, will breathe new life into one of the most central spaces in the city.

All machines at their Cardiff and Bristol branches cost £1 to play, so we expect the same price when it arrives here.
