Madchester originals Happy Mondays are set to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their first album with a show at Birmingham’s O2 Institute on Wednesday 6th December.
The legendary rock n roll excesses may be a thing of the past but the musical heritage left in place are an iconic testament to a brief period of the late eighties and early nineties, when the Madchester mavericks created a soundtrack that still recalls sunshine, good times, nuclear level hedonism and some full on funky tunes.

When we think of the Happy Mondays we still imagine them atop The Hotel Subur Maritim in Sitges, Spain. Fresh faced in the sun’s blinding light performing Step On, with a laconic Shaun Ryder presciently climbing aboard the giant letter E in the hotel sign. Happy days. The Bacchanalian behaviour is luckily a thing of the past, for all our sakes, but the glorious songs live on.
Relive them all as an almost complete original lineup bring their Greatest Hits tour to an expectant Institute on the 30th anniversary of their first album Squirrel And G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile (White Out). Tickets available here.
Support comes from Jon DaSilva.
