Mastodon are playing at Birmingham’s O2 Academy on January 22nd, having released their latest album, Emperor of Sand, in early 2017, meaning they’ve been touring that album for a while at this point. Then came their EP, Cold Dark Place, in September of the same year. Both were very well received, and so it seems Mastodon are content to tour (nearly constantly) on the back of their consistently high quality back catalogue.

Alongside Mastodon come two formidable support acts. The first comes in the form of Norwegian punk-metallers Kvelertak who recently experienced a spike in popularity after a big break on an arena tour with Metallica. This time they are back to team up with Mastodon and bludgeon and maim their way through the new year. Expect sweat, blood, and enough frantic energy to take down… well… a mastodon.

The second support are New York stoner metal trio Mutoid Man. With Ben Koller (Converge, All Pigs Must Die) on drums and Stephen Brodsky (Cave In) on guitar and vocals, they came equipped an already undeniable brutality and know-how. Expect crushing riffs and an all-round unforgettable showcase of metal.
