This duo are no strangers to the world of producing prominent Indie slammers. Former Arcadian Kicks, and accustomed to a wilder side of guitar rock, Ekkah take about tackling a dreamier, subtle sound – the focus justifiably shifting onto the vocals whilst short, neat guitar plucks float tirelessly amongst a drugged field of sound. Lyrically it remains memorable, approachable, just as much punch as it is pop. A scarily contagious chorus slots itself into your memory by the third or fourth listen, as warmth bubbles beneath welcomed cold-cut voices. Echoes of SBTRKT, Metronomy, and Theme Park drift from this new Birmingham outfit, but ‘7AM’ tells of a duo confident in their own sound. EKKAH’s debut demo is furiously feel good and bang on time for bumping its way onto your already busy summer playlists. Yet another great addition to the ever growing Birmingham music scene. Check them out TONIGHT (April 3) at the Hare & Hounds, where they’ll be supporting Big Deal alongside Clubs. Listen to ‘7AM’ here.
