Top 5 Local Places of Beauty to Visit This Spring

With Spring officially underway and the Easter holidays coming up, we take a look at five excellent slices of nature close to Birmingham.

 Sandwell Valley

In West Bromwich, near The Hawthorns, is a wonderful nature reserve spot that is ideal for all the family. During the summer months, Sandwell Valley and nearby Dartmouth Park get bustling with locals and visitors alike. The surrounding area provides plenty of walkable woodland and open fields, sports facilities and a large childrens park.

 Sutton Park

Sutton Park stretches from new Kingstanding to Little Aston, so there is plenty of space for everyone on the busier days. This park was once owned by the high society for hunting but is now a space for families and cows alike. The cows are approachable, but it is recommended to keep a safe distance! In this park, you’ll find lakes, woodland and a Miller & Carter.

 Kinver Edge

Kinver Edge and the surrounding area is an absolute sight to behold; just the cave houses alone are enough to blow your mind. There is an abundance of nice pubs and restaurants nearby, as well as a historic path to walk, where ancient civilisations once stood! The natural beauty and history of this place are both magical. Be sure to enjoy an ice cream in the woods, with the sight of the caves up ahead on the hillside. You’ll find the location near Kingswinford and Stourbridge.

 Clent Hills

Near Kidderminster and Halesowen, you will find a set of hills which provide one of the most beautiful views in all of the West Midlands, the Clent Hills. These hills are for the more sure-footed hiker, featuring harsh winds at times and at others, dangerous rain. So please be cautious before proceeding. This is still family friendly, however, as this family favourite spot is a gorgeous location for a day out of the city walls.

 Cannock Chase

This had to be top. While Clent Hills is a remarkable example of natural beauty, Cannock Chase near Stafford and Hednesford is one of the entire UK’s favourite places to go, to get back in touch with nature. With wildlife, including deer, present on the site and the stories of paranormal proportions calling the chase home, it isn’t just family parties who arrive here. Cannock is a hotspot for paranormal investigators and thrill seekers alike. This place even has a Wimpy near its location! Imagine if a chunk of the Californian forest was placed in the West Midlands, minus the bears.

Before choosing the best location for your family, please consider these recommendations in correspondence with your fitness and health status. Overall, these are five of the best places for you to get away from the concrete jungle and into the wild!
