Erling Haaland’s Five Goals Propel Manchester City to FA Cup Quarter-Finals in 6-2 Victory over Luton
Erling Haaland showcased an exceptional performance, scoring five goals, as Manchester City secured a 6-2 victory against Luton in the FA Cup fifth round. Haaland’s remarkable feat included a 40-minute first-half hat-trick and an additional two goals in the second half. Kevin De Bruyne played a crucial role, assisting all four of Haaland’s initial goals and highlighting their deadly partnership.
Mateo Kovacic added City’s sixth goal, contributing to a comprehensive win that keeps Pep Guardiola’s team on track for a potential repeat of last season’s treble. City is just a point behind Premier League leaders Liverpool and is poised to advance to the Champions League quarter-finals.
Despite Luton’s attempt at a comeback, narrowing the score to 3-2 with two goals from Jordan Clark, including an impressive long-range strike, Haaland’s quick succession of goals dashed hopes of a miraculous turnaround. The victory extends City’s unbeaten streak to 18 games across all competitions.
In his post-match interview, Pep Guardiola stated, “The players read the game perfectly,” said Guardiola. “The connection of Kevin with Erling was great but everyone contributed. Happy to be in the quarter-finals, one game away from Wembley.
“Erling needs a guy with the vision, the quality, the generosity. Kevin is the less selfish player in front of goal. Kevin needs the movement from Erling. We know how aggressive they are.
“Every pass was good. The finishing from Erling was good. We could have scored more, we had two or three more chances, one against one with Krul. But the players read (the game) really well. They did it perfectly.
