The Premier League’s Greatest Strikers – Part One
The beautiful game has graced us with many outstanding players over the years, but this article will focus on the men banging the ball in the back of the net in England’s top division. There are so many I’ve decided to split this up into a few articles, so I don’t only annoy you a lot by missing out on one of your favourites. There are so many to choose from, so please drop some suggestions in the comments, as I’m sure I may miss a few.
Harry Kane
After racking up some serious numbers at Tottenham, the English front-man is now plying his trade in Munich, where he has already bagged 22 goals in 16 games for the German giants. He can also pick a pass and, in 2020/2021, pick up the Premier League Golden Boot and the most assists that season in the division. Still a divisive figure (I can’t understand why, in all honesty), Harry is one of the greatest modern strikers to grace the field.
Sergio Aguero
The majestic Argentine signed for the city from Athletico Madrid in the summer of 2011. He became the club’s greatest-ever forward (Haaland is now lurking behind him like some goal-scoring vampire), scoring 260 goals during his time at the Citizens. He also has the honour of one of the most remarkable and dramatic final-day title-deciding goals ever. Who can forget that game against QPR when he smashed the ball into the back of the net to deny local Rivals Manchester United the Premier League crown?
Thierry Henry
This man, for some, is the greatest player to ever play in England’s top flight. As a Tottenham fan, I never got to enjoy him properly (for obvious reasons), but it’s undeniable how good this man was. His pace was electric, his finishing was superb, and he was a little underrated. He was a magician and the focal point to Arsenal’s success in the naughties. He still isn’t the most popular man in Ireland, though. I can’t imagine why.
Alan Shearer
A list like this would only be complete with the man who has scored the most goals ever in the Premier League. A whopping 260 goals. The former England captain won the league with Blackburn Rovers in 1995 before making the move further north to the club he supported as a boy. Sir Alex Ferguson was desperate to get his hands on the enigmatic Geordie, but the temptation of playing for the Toon was just too great for Shearer to pass up on. Some may say he made the wrong choice due to not winning another trophy after the transfer, a remarkable parallel to Manchester United’s success during this period. Still, the man is a hero in Newcastle, and that’s something that can never be taken away from him.
Part two will be on its way soon, but for now, I suggest jumping on to YouTube and looking at some of these players in their pomp. Harry Kane is still playing, so I suppose you can watch him play for Bayern. I prefer his Tottenham highlights, but there may be some bias there.
