Since Radio 1’s Scott Mills picked ‘Lost Without You’ as his tune of the week back in August, Brit School alumnus Freya Ridings has experienced a seismic shift in her musical career. The track, originally released in November 2017, featured on ITV’s hit reality show Love Island which bolstered its chart position to #9. Following a headlining US and European tour, a summer of choice festival spots including Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits and the Montreaux Jazz Festival and a UK tour in October, the 24 year old singer-songwriter will be hitting the road again in 2019 with a string of UK and European dates, landing in Birmingham on March 9th.

Ridings released her debut single ‘Blackout’ in May 2017 but it was her follow up single ‘Maps’ (a beguiling cover of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s track) that really got people talking. Despite being told by her piano teachers that she couldn’t be taught because she had trouble reading music, she persevered and taught herself piano and guitar, developing a fascination for playing pianos in odd locations. So her live performance in a church was a fitting choice for a debut album (Live At St Pancras Old Church). Released in September 2017, it prompted her first UK tour, as well as support slots for Tears for Fears and Lewis Capaldi. Her latest single ‘Ultraviolet’ was released in June this year. Akin to London Grammar meets Florence and The Machine, Ridings mix of rich, flowing vocals and fragile piano continues to entrance.
