Birmingham’s Latest Music Venue Faces Setback, Forced to Close Before Grand Opening

A retro music venue slated to debut in Stirchley on Friday has revealed its unfortunate setback, citing it has “fallen at the final hurdle”. It will not be open to the public. Known as Sally Brown’s, the venue was scheduled to open at the former Roadhouse on Lifford Lane on March 1, with a launch party event that had completely sold out.

Despite the anticipation, the event has been officially cancelled, as the booking platform Skiddle indicated. Steven Davis, one of the venue’s owners, confirmed the unfortunate turn of events, disclosing to BirminghamLive that Sally Brown’s will not proceed with its opening. The venue’s ‘Grand Opening’ event, initially set for Friday, featured a performance by Dave Barker, with customers having purchased £15 tickets.

In a post on its now-deleted Facebook page, Sally Brown’s conveyed the regretful news, stating, “It’s with great sadness we announce we have fallen at the final hurdle, and Sally Brown’s Birmingham will not open.”

“The empty space was transformed into something spectacular, and the venue was 99% finished. We had beer in the barrels, Pepsi on the gun, fridges waiting to be stocked, events sold out.”

“A disagreement at the last minute left me with less than 24 hours to raise some funds, which was impossible. Maybe a few days and it could have been sorted, but I wasn’t given this opportunity. All tickets will be refunded via Skiddle.”

Steven Davis, set to open the venue alongside Sharon Birch according to Companies House, acknowledged that he attempted last-minute efforts to secure funds for the launch but deemed it “impossible.”
The venue’s location, formerly the home of the Roadhouse until its closure in September 2017, experienced a fire in March 2018. After renovations, it briefly reopened in 2023 under Unit 7.
