FAITH – Waves
God works in mysterious ways. Jesus was a rock and roller, but the latest representative on earth is Bono (see? Mysterious Ways). These things are sent to test our faith, but there’s no need to worry when divine intervention arrives like this.
Bathed in a lo-fi rock motif that Best Coast and Pains of Being Pure at Heart would be proud of, ‘Waves’ gushes and flows from the delicate arpeggios before crashing into a burst of molten rock. Drenched in reverb and regret, it’s the perfect soundtrack for those late night walks home, clutching nothing but an empty bottle of gin and a phone full of missed calls. The good thing about ‘Waves’ is FAITH are creating their own identity, eschewing British brawn in favour of intricate, lovelorn melodies. It certainly bodes well for the future.
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. And with a stonker like this, no one will will dare try. FAITH has been restored.
Tied to the ’90s. I love anything with a good melody. Favourite acts include DIIV, Best Coast, Wavves, MBV, The Lemonheads, Bully, Pavement, Weezer, Wolf Alice, Mac DeMarco and Dinosaur Jr.
