International Sounds: I Hate My Village

We have new music for your ears todayCounteract will now feature at least one international band a month, and we are starting out with a bang. We have the privilege of bringing you new music from the Italian indie sensation I Hate My Village. These guys have been doing bits for a fair few years now and have made a name for themselves across Europe so Counteract is very excited to introduce them to you here today.

About The Band

I Hate My Village emerged onto the Italian music scene in 2018 as a unique collaboration between Adriano Viterbini (known for his work with Bud Spencer Blues Explosion) and Fabio Rondanini (associated with Calibro 35 and Afterhours). This musical partnership quickly evolved into a platform for experimentation and artistic exploration.

The band first came into existence in early 2017 when Viterbini and Rondanini began exchanging musical ideas. Drawing from their diverse backgrounds and experiences, the duo laid the groundwork for the band and planted the first seeds in the soil for the band’s musical journey. Those seeds turned into little green shoots that have now grown into flowers and now we have the Italian indie supergroup we see today producing some banging tunes.

Their debut album, ‘Nevermind the Tempo’, launches on May 17 via locomotiv Records, signifies a huge milestone in the band’s journey. Produced in collaboration with Marco Fasolo (formerly of Jennifer Gentle) and featuring vocal contributions from Alberto Ferrari (of Verdena), the album displays the collective creativity of its members, they have a uniquely cohesive sound but everything the band puts together gels seamlessly, this piece of music is an excellent example of musicians complementing each others individual talents.

New Album – Never Mind The Tempo

Nevermind the Tempo’ is a departure from conventional musical norms, characterised by its blend of genres and refusal to adhere to strict stylistic boundaries.

the latest tune ‘Artiminime has all of the electro beats that have become a staple of the band’s sound. Their original unconventional nature is on full display with this track. One of the biggest compliments I can give this tune is that it has a Bloc Party vibe, but at the same time is still very much its own monster.

Lead vocalist Viterbini stated: “We need wrong notes and we don’t care about time.”Marco Fasolo’s influence as a producer is evident throughout the album, infusing each composition with a sense of depth and intricacy. Alberto Ferrari’s vocal contributions add a distinct layer to the album’s sound. His emotive delivery complements the band’s instrumental arrangements, enhancing the overall impact of each track.

Listeners of ‘Nevermind the Tempo’ are treated to a unique listening experience. From the tribal rhythms of ‘Water Tanks’ to the hallucinatory soundscape of the latest single ‘Artiminime’, the album invites exploration and discovery.

Why We Love It

Each member brings a unique perspective to the table, resulting in a dynamic blend of styles and influences. Their willingness to experiment and take risks is palpable in every note, making ‘Nevermind the Tempo’ a captivating journey into uncharted musical territory. Sometimes they go off-beat, but this actually works and helps the music instead of hindering it. I find there is a fine line between experimental music, and I Hate My Village and have found the perfect balance.

In a world saturated with formulaic music, I Hate My Village offers a refreshing alternative. The bands have said that their debut album is a celebration of individuality and artistic freedom, encouraging listeners to embrace the beauty of imperfection and spontaneity. Nevermind the Tempo’ is an ambitious project from a group of musicians who aren’t afraid to take creative risks.  If you fancy something a bit different and unconventional then you must give it a go.
